Overview
The Vortex 226/234 Undercover Retrofit Hydraulic Roller package is engineered for traditional Small Block Chevy 262–400 cubic inch engines originally equipped with flat tappet camshafts but upgraded to modern hydraulic roller valvetrain technology.
This package combines a precision-ground cast hydraulic roller camshaft with premium Johnson 2116SBR Short Travel Link-Bar Lifters to deliver aggressive midrange torque, strong throttle response, lopey street idle characteristics, and excellent upper RPM power while maintaining real-world street drivability.
With 226°/234° duration @ .050", the Undercover utilizes a split-duration design that improves exhaust scavenging and overall cylinder efficiency — especially beneficial for typical Small Block Chevy street heads and exhaust systems. The added exhaust duration broadens the torque curve while improving high-RPM breathing and maintaining excellent pump-gas street manners.
The .328"/.349" lobe lift design provides excellent airflow potential while remaining stable with properly matched street valvetrain components. When paired with recommended 1.6 ratio rocker arms, the cam produces .525"/.558" valve lift for increased cylinder filling and stronger top-end performance.
The included Johnson short-travel retrofit roller lifters improve hydraulic stability, reduce pump-up tendencies, and provide superior valve control compared to conventional retrofit hydraulic rollers.
Available in 108°, 110°, and 112° LSA configurations, the Vortex 226/234 Undercover can be tailored for a hard-lopey street machine, balanced street/strip combination, or smoother EFI-friendly setup with improved vacuum production.
