⚖️ LSA Power & Idle Characteristics

110° LSA:
Maximum aggression — deep lope, brutal torque, and neck-snapping throttle response.
For lightweight cars and full performance builds.

112° LSA:
Still heavily cammed but smoother off idle, stronger vacuum, and better midrange torque spread.

114° LSA (Standard):
Broadest powerband, highest top-end stability, and slightly calmer idle for tuned street/strip builds.

  • Compression Ratio: 10.8:1 – 11.5:1 (ideal)

  • Induction: Ported or aftermarket intake, 90–100mm throttle body

  • Exhaust: Long-tube headers and free-flowing dual system

  • Gearing: 3.55 – 4.30 rear gears

  • Converter / Clutch:

    • Automatic: 3,000 – 3,600 rpm stall converter

    • Manual: High-performance clutch rated ≥ 650 lb-ft

  • Valve Springs: COMP PAC-1219X or Manley 221432 dual spring

    • Seat ≈ 145 lb @ 1.800"

    • Open ≈ 380 lb @ .580"

    • Coil Bind ≈ 1.090" (maintain ≥ .060" clearance)

  • Retainers & Locks: Titanium or tool steel with 7° locks

  • Pushrods: 5/16" hardened chromoly (+0.050" typical)

  • Lifters: Johnson short-travel or Morel performance hydraulic rollers

  • Rocker Arms: Stock 1.65:1 or trunnion-upgraded systems

  • Timing Set: Billet adjustable timing set (mandatory for precise degreeing)

  • Valve Seals: Positive Viton-style

 

🧠 Installation & Tuning Notes

  • Always degree the cam to verify 110° ICL advance.

  • Check piston-to-valve clearance carefully (especially with milled heads).

  • Use high-ZDDP oil for break-in and early operation.

  • ECU tuning required for fueling, idle stability, and spark curve.

  • Idle target: 875–950 rpm (112°–114° LSA).
